Able, Gifted and Talented Provision
At The Peterborough School we are intensely committed to meeting the educational needs of all our pupils by providing an environment which encourages pupils to maximise their potential and develop their talents and abilities to the full. As testimony to this, in June 2013 and again in 2017, we were awarded the NACE (National Association for Able Children in Education) Challenge Award which signifies that we provide for our more able learners at the highest level.
In providing for our more able students we aim to:
- Provide an environment for the most able learners to be challenged, to test their limits and be able to accommodate both success and failure in a climate of support.
- Encourage all students to become confident, independent learners.
- Enable pupils to access learning opportunities both inside and outside the classroom which will further stimulate their creativity and passion for learning.
- Create an ethos where academic excellence is celebrated as the norm, so those who are able, gifted and talented feel at ease and confident.
Each year teachers identify and update an able, gifted and talented register of pupils who show a particular ability, gift or talent within their curriculum area or across a range of skills. This is achieved using subject specific criteria to help make judgements as robust as possible. Parents will be informed of this judgement via written communication or during a parental consultation evening. This will give further opportunity to discuss a pupil’s specific strengths and how they can be supported and extended within and beyond the school curriculum.
